Shakhtar midfielder Taras Stepanenko answered reporters' questions at the press conference before the first match of 2022/23 UEFA Champions League vs RB Leipzig.

– Igor Jovicevic told that you watched matches of RB Leipzig. What conclusions can be made and what strong sides of the opponent can be specified?
– Yes we watched matches, especially the one against Eintracht. RB Leipzig is a high-quality German team with strong players demonstrating fast, aerial football. They have fast forwards and we must pay attention and be ready for this. We played with German teams many times and I can say that it was hard, but we had and have good results in those matches. Tomorrow we will try to demonstrate good football and score.

– What mood do the young team partners, who will make their debut in the Champions League, have? Did you give any instructions maybe?
– I told nothing to anyone. I remember my feelings before the first UCL match, I was worrying a lot, but the only thing I heard before the game was: you are ready. They are ready, Mister is also ready, I am sure, so it is important for them to come on, demonstrate what they currently can and just enjoy the atmosphere, level and crowded stands. I think they have everything: talent, efficiency and potential to play good football and achieve results.

– How is it possible to train and play football during the war?
– This is the first time for us as well. It is difficult to describe your feelings during training session in Kyiv, but we approach training under such conditions without any problems at all day by day. You must be ready to hear air alarms during the session and then you shall go to the shelter. But every day you are proud of your country. I train and do everything I can for my country. This is our way, our spirit, we have to overcome this.
