Lecce have sacked Luca Gotti as head coach

Lecce have sacked Luca Gotti as head coach following a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Empoli, a result that left the club mired in Serie A’s relegation zone. The draw proved to be the tipping point for the 57-year-old, who exits after just eight months in charge.

2024-25, Italian Serie A: Standings

Gotti, who previously worked as Maurizio Sarri’s assistant at Chelsea during the 2018–2019 season, was hired by Lecce in March 2024 to replace Roberto D'Aversa. Ironically, it was D'Aversa—now managing Empoli—who effectively sealed Gotti’s fate by snatching points from his former side.

In a statement, the club said: “We thank Luca Gotti for his professionalism and dedication during his time with us. He approached his work with passion and commitment, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Lecce’s struggles this season are evident in the standings. The club sits 18th with just nine points from 12 matches, hampered by the league’s most toothless attack, netting only five goals, and one of its leakiest defenses, conceding 21.

With survival in Serie A hanging in the balance, Lecce now faces the challenge of finding a new manager capable of revitalizing the team and securing its top-flight status.
