Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli is confident that Atalanta will be a strong contender for the Serie A title this season.

Currently sitting second in the league standings, the Bergamo-based side trails leaders Napoli by just one point. Prandelli shared his thoughts on Atalanta’s campaign in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport:

Winning "Dirty" Matches

"This season, they know how to fight until the end," Prandelli stated. "Atalanta has always been a pleasure to watch under Gian Piero Gasperini. However, they rarely managed to secure three points when they couldn’t perform at their best. In recent months, they’ve learned to win the so-called 'dirty' games, even when their football wasn’t pretty. This was evident in their recent victories over Roma, Monza, and Udinese. Atalanta may not always be dazzling, but they’ve become ruthlessly efficient."

The Europa League Factor

Prandelli also highlighted the impact of Atalanta’s triumph in the Europa League last May: "I think everything changed for them after that victory. Dominating the final against a top team that was unbeaten all season gave Gasperini’s squad a significant boost in confidence. The players now know they are strong and capable of winning trophies, including the Scudetto."

As Atalanta continues to chase their first-ever Serie A title, they’ll need to maintain their resilience and capitalize on their newfound belief.
