Edmonton Oilers clinch playoff berth as McDavid hits rare NHL milestone
Edmonton Oilers punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 4–2 win over the San Jose Sharks in one of five games played on a busy night of NHL action.
While Connor McDavid didn’t score, the superstar captain was the engine behind every Oilers goal — recording four assists to reach 71 on the season. With that, McDavid has now posted 70+ assists in seven separate NHL seasons, surpassing legends Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey (six each). Only Mario Lemieux (8) and Wayne Gretzky (16) have more such seasons in NHL history.
The victory mathematically eliminates Calgary Flames from catching Edmonton, officially securing the Oilers’ place in the Western Conference playoff picture.
