Bayer secured a narrow but deserved 1–0 victory

Bayer Leverkusen secured a narrow but deserved 1–0 victory over Hamburger SV in a rescheduled Bundesliga fixture, with the decisive moment arriving in the second half thanks to Kofane.

The visitors largely controlled proceedings throughout the night, dictating the tempo and creating the majority of clear-cut chances. Leverkusen looked sharper and more dangerous going forward, while Hamburger SV struggled to produce meaningful attacking play in front of their home crowd.

The first half already hinted at the direction the contest would take. Bayer Leverkusen pushed high and threatened repeatedly, even seeing the woodwork deny them. At another key moment, the referee initially pointed to the spot for a penalty to the visitors, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review, keeping the score level.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 73rd minute. After sustained pressure from the visitors, Kofane found the decisive touch, calmly converting to give Bayer Leverkusen the lead they had been threatening to claim for much of the match.

Despite the dominance of Leverkusen, the drama was far from over. Hamburger SV launched a late surge in the closing stages and nearly snatched an equaliser in the dying seconds. However, Vuskovic failed to capitalise on a golden opportunity during the hosts’ final push.
