A potential scandal is brewing that could send shockwaves through the Premier League

A potential scandal is brewing that could send shockwaves through the Premier League, as Swedish authorities claim to have uncovered concrete evidence linking several Premier League players to match-fixing activities.

Fredrik Gårdare, a leading officer and expert in sports corruption with the Swedish police, revealed that during a 2021 raid on a casino, investigators seized mobile phones containing data strongly suggesting involvement in betting on highly specific match events — including yellow cards, corner kicks, and other in-game occurrences.

Gårdare, who previously led the case that saw former Manchester City midfielder Dickson Etuhu banned for five years in 2020 for attempting to bribe an AIK goalkeeper, described this latest case as "the most clear-cut" he has seen in years of investigating match manipulation.

He urged the Football Association and Premier League authorities to launch a thorough investigation, warning that betting-related corruption could be infiltrating the heart of English football. Gårdare’s comments come amid rising concerns around integrity in the game, particularly following ongoing scrutiny into Lucas Paquetá and recent reports of players being approached near training grounds.
