German Cup: Round of 16 Line-up Confirmed as Top-Flight Clubs Dominate

The DFB-Pokal Round of 32 has come to an end in Germany, and this time the competition passed without major upsets. Unlike in previous years, none of the lower-division outsiders managed to pull off a fairytale run to the next stage.
Among the 16 teams that reached the Round of 16, the majority come from the Bundesliga. Only five clubs from the 2. Bundesliga remain in contention — Hertha BSC, Hamburger SV, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, 1. FC Magdeburg, and SV Darmstadt 98. Of those, only Hamburger SV managed to beat a top-flight opponent, knocking out 1. FC Heidenheim in an impressive performance.
Meanwhile, Arminia Bielefeld, currently competing in the 3. Liga, came agonizingly close to an upset against Union Berlin. After a hard-fought match, the Bundesliga side eventually prevailed in extra time, ending Arminia’s spirited cup run.
The Round of 16 fixtures are scheduled for December 2 and 3, while the draw for this stage will take place on Sunday, November 2.
