F1 Abu Dhabi: Verstappen, Norris and Piastri lock out front row in season-ending qualifying thriller

The final qualifying session of the Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi delivered exactly the drama fans hoped for. All three title contenders secured the top three spots on the grid, setting up a blockbuster finale to the 2025 championship.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen produced a trademark lap for Red Bull, topping the timesheets and securing pole position. Right behind him came current championship leader Lando Norris of McLaren, while his teammate — and fellow title challenger — Oscar Piastri completed a dominant showing for the team by taking third.
The rest of the top ten featured a mix of heavy hitters and rising stars: George Russell (Mercedes), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull).
Heading into tomorrow’s decisive race, Lando Norris leads the 2025 Drivers’ Championship with 408 points. Max Verstappen follows on 396, with Oscar Piastri still firmly in the hunt on 392.
