Bayern Munich made a statement on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga season, sweeping aside Stuttgart 5-1 at the Allianz Arena. The visitors showed plenty of attacking intent early on and even rattled the crossbar, but it was the hosts who struck first when Dayot Upamecano powered a header into the net in the 21st minute.

Stuttgart came out firing after the break and were rewarded when Josha Vagnoman levelled the score. But what followed was a nightmare spell for the Stuttgart defender. First, Michael Olise restored Bayern's lead, before Vagnoman turned the ball into his own net just moments later to give the champions a two-goal cushion.

The closing stages belonged to substitute Ismaïla Sarr, who made an immediate impact with two assists. The Moroccan midfielder first set up Alexandar Pavlovic before producing another telling pass in stoppage time to put Luis Díaz through on goal.
