Atletico Madrid moved to within two points of Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings after securing a dramatic 2-1 away victory over Alaves. In a closely contested encounter, both sides found the net in the first half before a late decisive goal settled the contest in Atletico's favour.

The decisive moment came towards the end of normal time when Cristian Romero rose highest at the far post to head home a cross and snatch all three points for Diego Simeone's side.

The result extended Atletico Madrid's winning run to four consecutive matches in the current La Liga season.
