Lewandowski: It was a match that will give Poland a lot to think about
Robert Lewandowski, Poland forward, speaking after his team's shocking defeat in a game against Belgium (1:6):
- Yes, my substitution was planned. I still ended up playing more than I was supposed to play, but it was planned. I doubt that I would play 90 minutes in every match, because this is the end of the season; my body is tired and we need to consider this.
It was a match that will give us a lot to think about, a lot of question marks in various parts of our game plan and overall strategy, but also a lesson on how to play against such teams. Even the attacking players had to go back deep and help out in defence, which took a lot of effort. After that, it is difficult to have the strength to attack again.
Sometimes you have to strike a balance between defensive and attacking play. We often lacked the strength to go out and keep hold the ball. The Belgians did not play with any high pressing, but at the same time we did not look for ways to stay in possession, to play faster. We were far too static.
