Despite losing half of the squad over the summer, Shakhtar surprised everyone with a confident 4-1 victory against RB Leipzig.

Two of the Ukranian side goals were scored by newcomer Marian Shved, who played his first game in the Champions League, with Mykhailo Mudryk and Lassina Traore adding two more goals at the end of the match.
