Trubin: Zubkov’s goal gave us strength and faith

Shakhtar goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin summed up the UCL MD3 game vs Real Madrid.

– Shakhtar have met with Real Madrid in the Champions League three years in a row. How was this game?
– Real is the best team in Europe, they are among the Champions League favourites every year. It is a big challenge to face them. You can see what you are worth in such meets. We had to step it up. The match happened to be very tough, we could play better, but there were a lot of unwanted mistakes. But we made a good step regarding our progress, we will analyse our mistakes and prepare for the next encounter.

– What caused the conceded goals?
– Our inattentiveness and level of Real Madrid players. Also I could play better if talking about the first conceded goal. Again, we must analyse our mistake, do the work and move on.

– What impact did Zubkov’s goal have on the team? How did the coach and older teammates

motivate you during the break?
– I liked it very much that everyone participated in the dialog during the break. This demonstrated the team spirit and faith that we will make it. Zubkov’s goal gave us strength and faith that we can achieve the result. During the break, we were preparing for a fight, although we knew that it would be difficult, but we waited for our chance and believed that we could play draw or win.

– You made 11 saves. What attempt was the hardest?
– I cannot say which one was the hardest, I focus on the one I have conceded. I must become better. I did what I had to do – I was saving the team. I will try to do better.

– Shakhtar have the home match against Real Madrid in Warsaw ahead.
– I would like to see people come to support us, although we are going to play in Warsaw. I would really like to feel the home support, so I invite everyone to the match and wait for a warm support for Shakhtar in Warsaw.
