Shakhtar defender Mykola Matviienko signed a new contract with the club. The deal is effective until December 31, 2027.

Darijo Srna, FC Shakhtar Sports Director:
– Matviienko had a serious offer from England, but we did not let him go: firstly, we believe that he is worth more, and secondly, he is the leader of Shakhtar and Ukraine, he is the future of our club and the national team. Therefore, we will respect every offer to the footballer and consider either a transfer of the player or signing of a new contract. Perhaps in the future a better offer will come and he will find himself in one of the top championships in Europe, and today Mykola Matviienko gives a lot to Shakhtar, behaving very professionally. He is an example for new footballers: he has not had any red cards during all the years of playing for the club. And this contract is a reward for him as a footballer, as a person, as a professional.

We remind that Matviienko is a Shakhtar graduate. He studied at the club's Academy since 13 years old, and in the summer of 2015, he made his debut with senior team of the Pitmen. To date, the 26-year-old defender made 157 apps and scored 7 goals for the Orange-and-Blacks. Mykola Matviienko managed to won 8 trophies together with the Miners: he became the champion of Ukraine three times (2018, 2019, 2020), won 4 domestic Cups (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and 1 Super Cup (2021).
