Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister, who spoke exclusively to EPL Index, has called on the club to prioritize signing a new striker, specifically highlighting Viktor Gyökeres, the prolific forward currently playing for Sporting CP. The Swede has been in red-hot form, and with Ruben Amorim, his former coach, now at the helm of United, Pallister believes the move could be a perfect fit.

United’s Striker Dilemma

Speaking about United's recent struggles in front of goal, Pallister didn’t hold back:

"I think Manchester United will definitely look at strengthening their central striker position, as well as other areas they can improve. They’ve relied on Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, but I’m not convinced Zirkzee is a true number nine, and Højlund is still developing."

Pallister emphasized that United’s inability to rely on their center-forwards for consistent goals has been a persistent issue:

"The reality is that their strikers simply aren’t scoring enough goals. It’s been a problem for a while now, and I think Ruben Amorim will recognize this and look to address it in January."

Gyökeres: The Missing Piece?

The connection between Amorim and Gyökeres makes the Swedish international an obvious candidate for United’s winter transfer targets. Pallister highlighted the forward’s impressive record:

"Viktor Gyökeres is scoring for fun in Portugal, and he showed his quality during his time at Coventry City a few years ago. United have been crying out for a natural goal scorer for years, and in that respect, he ticks all the boxes."

What’s Next for United?

With January’s transfer window fast approaching, the question remains whether Ruben Amorim will look to reunite with his former star striker. Gyökeres, with his blend of physicality and clinical finishing, could be the solution to Manchester United's attacking woes.
