Emiliano Martinez, the 32-year-old Argentine shot-stopper from Aston Villa, has been crowned the Best Goalkeeper in the World for 2024 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). This marks Martinez’s first triumph in the annual ranking after finishing as runner-up in the previous two editions.

Martinez dominated the vote, earning 167 points, far ahead of runner-up Unai Simon of Spain, who garnered 91 points. Giorgi Mamardashvili of Georgia claimed third place, while Frenchman Mike Maignan secured fourth.

The rankings also included Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, whose standout performances for Real Madrid were recognized. Lunin shared sixth place with Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer, while his club teammate Thibaut Courtois finished one spot higher in fifth.
