Jimmy Butler, the face of the Miami Heat, has reportedly requested a trade before the NBA’s February 6 trade deadline, according to The Athletic. The forward’s desire to leave was made clear during a recent press conference, where he stated he does not see his future with the team.
Butler signed a four-year, $186.5 million contract extension with the Heat in the summer of 2021, making him one of the franchise's highest-paid players. However, the current season has been one of the most challenging of his career. In 22 games, Butler is averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists—his lowest output in a decade.
As the trade deadline approaches, Butler’s decision adds pressure to Miami’s front office to find a deal that benefits both the player and the organization.
