MLS: Lionel Messi Bags Another Brace as Inter Miami Crush New York Red Bulls
Lionel Messi was once again at the heart of the action as Inter Miami delivered a commanding 5–1 away victory over New York Red Bulls in the MLS regular season.
The hosts opened the scoring through Wiki Carmona (known as Hak) in the 14th minute, raising hopes of a strong performance. But those hopes were quickly dashed. Within ten minutes, Inter Miami had not only equalized but taken the lead — and, as usual, Messi was pulling the strings.
First, he set up Jordi Alba with a pinpoint assist, then played the pre-assist in the build-up to Leonardo Campana Segovia’s strike just three minutes later. Segovia added his second in first-half stoppage time, sending the visitors into the break with a 3–1 lead.
In the second half, it was Messi’s turn to shine on the scoresheet. He scored twice — once assisted by longtime teammate Sergio Busquets and then by Luis Suárez — as Miami ran riot at Red Bull Arena.
The Argentine superstar has now recorded his sixth brace in his last seven MLS matches, a staggering run that has only been interrupted by a 3–0 defeat to FC Cincinnati.
