The club failed to register for the upcoming Serie C season

SPAL (Società Polisportiva Ars et Labor), once a proud name in Serie A, has officially ceased operations following a bankruptcy ruling by an Italian court. The club failed to register for the upcoming Serie C season and has now been removed from the Italian football pyramid.

Just months ago, SPAL had secured their place in Serie C by winning a play-off to avoid relegation. However, financial issues spiraled in the following weeks, and the club was unable to meet the registration requirements for the 2025/26 season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, despite “numerous attempts to find concrete solutions to ensure sporting and corporate continuity,” no viable rescue plan materialized, leading to the club’s official dissolution.

The SPAL name and brand — deeply rooted in Italian football history - will reportedly be auctioned off. Founded in 1907, the club has experienced several promotions and relegations over the years, including memorable recent stints in Serie A from 2017 to 2020.

In the wake of the club’s collapse, a new "phoenix club" has been formed under the name Ars et Labor. The newly established side has registered to compete in Eccellenza, the fifth tier of Italian football and the highest level of amateur competition.
