Dragan Stojković Resigns as Serbia Head Coach
Serbia are on the hunt for a new head coach after Dragan Stojković announced his resignation in the wake of a shock 1-0 home defeat to Albania in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The result marked a second consecutive loss for the Serbs, who were thrashed 5-0 by England in their previous qualifier. Serbia now sit third in Group K with 9 points, trailing group leaders England (15 points) and second-placed Albania (11 points), who have played one more game.
"I’ve spoken with the president and the general secretary, and I’ve handed in my resignation," said Stojković at the post-match press conference. "I personally didn’t expect such a result. I take full responsibility."
Stojković took over the Serbian national team in 2021 and led them to qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2022. However, the team exited the tournament at the group stage, finishing bottom with just one point from three matches.
