Graham Potter

Graham Potter has been officially named the new head coach of the Sweden men’s national team, marking a swift return to management for the Englishman after his recent spell at West Ham.

The appointment comes just days after the Swedish FA dismissed Jon Dahl Tomasson following a disastrous start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Sweden currently sit bottom of Group B with only one point from four matches, having drawn with Slovenia and lost to Switzerland and Kosovo.

Despite their struggles, Sweden’s strong UEFA Nations League performance is expected to secure them a play-off berth for World Cup qualification — a crucial lifeline for Potter’s new regime.

“Together with the players, I want to make the dream of reaching the World Cup a reality for the fans,” said Potter during his unveiling.

The 49-year-old is no stranger to Swedish football, having famously managed Östersunds FK from 2011 to 2018, guiding the club from the fourth tier to the Allsvenskan and lifting the Swedish Cup in 2017. His impressive run earned him moves to Swansea City, Brighton, and later Chelsea.
