Six fixtures across three European groups headline today’s World Cup 2026 qualifying schedule

Six fixtures across three European groups headline today’s World Cup 2026 qualifying schedule — but only two national teams hold a realistic chance of sealing their place at the tournament by the end of the night.

In Group A, the clear favourites are Germany. Despite a shock early setback against Slovakia, the Bundesteam sit top of the group, level on points with the Slovaks but boasting a superior goal difference. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann will expect his side to strengthen their position in today’s match against Luxembourg. Still, the race for the top spot may stay alive until the final round.

In Group G, all eyes turn to the crucial showdown between Poland and Netherlands. Even a win may not be enough for the Poles, who trail the Oranje by three points and carry a +6 goal difference compared to the Dutch side’s emphatic +19. And with Poland set to face Malta in the final matchday, the gap looks difficult to overcome. On the other hand, if the Netherlands secure victory tonight, they will officially book their ticket to the World Cup 2026.

In Group L, Croatia are already preparing to celebrate. A draw at home against the Faroe Islands would be enough for the team led by Zlatko Dalić to clinch qualification, making their path to the tournament almost assured.
