The group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 officially came to an end today

The group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 officially came to an end today, with the final round of matches confirming the full list of 16 teams progressing to the knockout phase of the tournament.

In Group E, Algeria continued their flawless run, defeating Equatorial Guinea to claim a third consecutive victory and finish top of the group in convincing fashion. Behind them, Burkina Faso secured second place thanks to a crucial win over Sudan, inspired by a goal from Shakhtar Donetsk striker Lassina Traoré.

Despite the defeat, Sudan still had reason to celebrate. Their overall record proved strong enough to see them advance as one of the best third-placed teams, completing a dramatic qualification for the AFCON 2025 knockout rounds.

In Group F, the picture was already clear before the final matchday. Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Mozambique had all secured their places in the last 16, while Gabon endured a disappointing campaign, finishing bottom after losing all three group matches.
