2026 Winter Games

The Olympic programme of the 2026 Winter Games has officially begun in Bormio, with the opening event being the first training run in the men’s downhill.

The fastest time was set by American skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who completed the course in 1:56.08. Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni finished second, 0.16 seconds adrift, while Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt placed third, 0.40 seconds behind the leader.

The session was largely exploratory in nature, with athletes familiarising themselves with one of the most demanding and fastest courses on the calendar. Most competitors opted for an energy-saving approach ahead of further training runs and the main race, which is scheduled for Saturday.

The opening day was not without incident. Norwegian skier Fredrik Møller suffered a shoulder injury and was airlifted from the course by helicopter. No further details on the severity of the injury have been confirmed at this stage.
