Scorer of PSG’s first European goal passes away

Former Chad international and striker for several French clubs Nambating Toko has died at the age of 73 after a long illness. The news was confirmed by former Paris Saint-Germain president Michel Denisot.
Toko was one of the standout figures of French football in the 1970s and 1980s and secured a permanent place in history as the scorer of PSG’s first-ever goal in European competition.
Over the course of his career, he made 274 appearances in France’s top division, scoring 61 goals for Nice, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Valenciennes and PSG. He finished as French runner-up with Nice in 1976 and won the Ligue 1 title with Strasbourg in 1979.
A special chapter of his career is linked to Paris Saint-Germain. On 28 September 1982, Toko wrote himself into the club’s history by scoring PSG’s first goal in the European Cup, finding the net against Lokomotiv Sofia at the Parc des Princes.
