CONCACAF, the governing body for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, has issued a strongly worded statement directed at FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The response follows the collapse of the controversial proposal to sell a commercial stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.

Although FIFA has officially withdrawn the plan, CONCACAF says the episode warrants a thorough review of the leadership and decision-making processes under Infantino's presidency.

"This situation is a clear symptom of a system of governance that has stopped putting football first. We believe a comprehensive audit of this presidency is now essential," CONCACAF said in its official statement.

The latest intervention comes after UEFA also publicly questioned confidence in Gianni Infantino's leadership. CONCACAF stressed that it will continue to push for greater transparency, stronger governance and full compliance with the FIFA Statutes when major decisions affecting world football are made.
