Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers served up an entertaining 2-2 draw as the new EFL Championship season got under way on August 14.

The opening game of the campaign delivered plenty of action, with both sides finding the net and giving their managers plenty to think about. Marshall Munetsi put the hosts ahead after 18 minutes, but Scott McLoughlin responded just nine minutes later to level the contest.

Blackburn Rovers completed the comeback shortly after half-time when Andri Gudjohnsen found the net to make it 2-1. The visitors looked set to leave with all three points, but Wolverhampton Wanderers were awarded a late penalty.

Matheus Cunha stepped up from the spot and made no mistake, securing a share of the spoils for the hosts and ensuring the Championship season began with a dramatic 2-2 draw.
