Athletic Bilbao - Sevilla 1:3

Edin Terzic endured a nightmare competitive debut as Athletic Club head coach, with Sevilla taking full advantage of a series of costly errors to claim a 3-1 victory at San Mamés. The visitors were ruthless when opportunities presented themselves, while the Basque side were left to rue a disastrous start.

The game was turned on its head as early as the 11th minute. Yuri Berchiche was shown a straight red card after bringing down Miguel Sierra, leaving Athletic Club with 10 men for almost the entire match. Just three minutes later, Unai Simón and Alex Berenguer combined for another costly mistake, allowing Oso to open the scoring for Sevilla.

Despite being a man down, Athletic Club showed plenty of fight and created opportunities to get back into the contest. But Sevilla were clinical after the interval. Chidera Ejuke doubled the visitors' advantage in the 50th minute before Isaac Romero struck six minutes later, capitalising on another defensive lapse to make it 3-0.

Terzic responded with changes, including the introduction of Nico Williams, which gave the hosts greater attacking energy. Their persistence eventually paid off when Aitor Paredes headed home from a corner in the 69th minute to give the San Mamés crowd a glimmer of hope.

However, Sevilla held firm in the closing stages to secure a valuable three points. For Terzic, the 1-3 defeat is a sobering start to his tenure at Athletic Club.
