Brentford - Tottenham 3:0

Brentford made a statement on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season, sweeping aside Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 and turning Roberto De Zerbi's competitive debut into a night to forget. The Bees were sharper, more cohesive and far more clinical, exposing the weaknesses in a Spurs side that had arrived with huge expectations after a major summer rebuild.

Tottenham had invested heavily during the transfer window, with high-profile arrivals including Sandro Tonali, but it was Keith Andrews's Brentford who looked like the more settled team. The hosts opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter finished after excellent work from new signing Mamadou Sangare.

The problems continued for Tottenham before half-time. Vitaly Janelt doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute after goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky could only parry the ball straight into the danger area. The Bees were ruthless, while Spurs repeatedly struggled to deal with the pressure.

The second half brought more misery for the visitors. Michael Kayode struck just four minutes after the restart to make it 3-0, effectively ending the contest and leaving De Zerbi with plenty to think about ahead of the next round of fixtures.
