Borussia Dortmund began their new season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Hamburger SV at Signal Iduna Park.

The hosts dominated the opening half and quickly broke the deadlock. Serhou Guirassy finished off a well-worked move after receiving a pass from Kostas Karetsas, giving Dortmund an early advantage.

The home side doubled their lead shortly before half-time. Giannis Konstantelias saw his effort take a deflection off a defender before finding the net, leaving Hamburg with a mountain to climb after just 45 minutes.

The visitors improved after the break, while Borussia Dortmund were dealt a blow when Konstantelias was forced off with an injury. The situation became even more difficult for the hosts 15 minutes from time when Imanol Machuca was shown a straight red card, leaving Dortmund to defend with 10 men.

Hamburg created several opportunities during the final stages and pushed hard for a way back into the game. However, Gregor Kobel stood firm, producing a series of important saves to preserve his clean sheet.
