The UEFA Champions League is back in action today after a brief pause for international fixtures, with Europe’s elite clubs ready to resume their campaigns following just one round of league-phase matches.

Nine matches are scheduled for Tuesday, 13 October, with two kick-offs at 18:45 CET. However, the main action gets underway at 21:00, when the majority of the evening’s fixtures will take place.

On paper, the standout clash sees Atletico Madrid take on Manchester United in a meeting between two heavyweight names in European football. The encounter promises to be one of the night’s biggest attractions, given the stature and history of both clubs.

There will also be plenty of attention on Barcelona, who travel to face Galatasaray. The Catalan giants are widely regarded as one of the leading contenders for the Champions League title, but a trip to Istanbul could prove a stern test.

Meanwhile, Arsenal host Lille, featuring former Gunners striker Olivier Giroud, who spent several successful years in north London. His return to familiar surroundings adds an extra storyline to an already intriguing fixture.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, face a potentially unusual challenge against Norway’s Viking, with the match set to be played on an artificial pitch.
