The UEFA Conference League finally got underway this week, completing the trio of European club competitions after its delayed start. Thursday evening saw the first 18 matches of the tournament take place, giving clubs across the continent their first opportunity to make a statement on the European stage.

Unlike some previous European matchdays, the opening round produced no major thrashings. Brighton & Hove Albion were among the standout performers, cruising to a convincing 4-0 victory over Kauno Žalgiris. Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen also impressed, sweeping aside Braga with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Those were the only emphatic victories of the evening, with the remaining fixtures delivering tighter contests and more modest scorelines.
