Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has provided an update on head coach Vincent Kompany, confirming that while the Belgian tactician is making positive strides and remains in stable condition, doctors have yet to reach a definitive diagnosis following his collapse at the club's Säbener Straße facility.
The 40-year-old manager was hospitalised on Friday after losing consciousness, which forced him to miss Bayern's 3-1 Bundesliga victory away at SC Freiburg on Sunday. Assistant coach Aaron Danks oversaw first-team duties from the touchline.
Speaking after the match in Freiburg, Eberl stressed that the club is deliberately giving Kompany space and time to undergo thorough assessments without external pressure:
“Vinnie is stable. He doesn’t have any headaches anymore and will continue to be assessed. We’re just leaving him in peace. He needs to wait for the diagnosis, and then we know what needs to be done. There’s no final diagnosis yet. But the games and wins are the best medicine for him.”
Kompany had been battling a severe viral infection throughout the previous week, having pushed through illness to manage matches against RB Leipzig and Arsenal before his body gave way during Friday's session. Bayern’s executive staff have reiterated that Kompany will be afforded as much time as necessary to make a complete recovery before returning to the dugout.
