FC Bayern have signed France youth international Mathys Tel. The 17-year-old joins the German record champions from Stade Rennes.

Tel had a meteoric rise at Rennes. He played in the UEFA Youth League at the age of 15. His debut for the first team followed in August 2021. At the age of 16 years and 101 days, he became the youngest player in a competitive match for Rennes. He made ten appearances for the senior team last season.

Tel was called up to the France U18s for the first time in September 2021. He scored five goals and provided one assist in six friendlies in the autumn of 2021. His two goals in as many qualifiers in the spring of 2022 for France's U17s helped take them to the finals of the European Championships.

Hasan Salihamidzic, FC Bayern board member for sport: "Mathys Tel is one of the biggest talents in Europe, a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker. He won the European Championships with the France U17s this year as captain of the team. We've been watching him for a long time and we were able to convince him to take his next important steps in Munich with us now. We are proud of that, as there were a lot of clubs who wanted to sign him. The development of such an exceptional young player is an exciting project for us all. Of course, Mathys needs time, he needs minutes on the pitch and rhythm. We are all convinced he has a great career in front of him and that he will help our team."
