In a groundbreaking move, La Liga has officially requested permission from the Spanish Football Federation to host a league match on American soil for the first time ever.

The proposed game would see Barcelona take on Atlético Madrid in what could become a landmark event for Spanish football. Scheduled for December 21 or 22, the fixture has been earmarked as the inaugural La Liga match to be held outside of Spain.
