Xabi Alonso called defence the weakest link of his Bayer this season, and it was the failure in defence that cost German champions two points in today's game with Werder.

In the course of the game Bayer twice led in the score, but both times allowed the hosts to get back on track. First, Ducksch avoided offside and headed the ball into the net, and in the last minute of the match Schmid sent the ball into the near corner with a beautiful shot - 2-2.
