World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Brazil Held to Draw by Venezuela
Brazil missed a crucial opportunity to secure a win in their World Cup 2026 South American qualifier, managing only a 1-1 draw against Venezuela in the 11th round of matches.
The Seleção took the lead just before halftime thanks to a stunning free-kick from Raphinha Dias. However, Venezuela wasted no time in leveling the score as Telasco Segovia struck seconds into the second half.
Brazil appeared poised to regain the lead in the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty. Yet, Vinícius Júnior failed to convert, leaving the game finely balanced. Venezuela’s hopes for a dramatic victory were dashed late in the match when defender Gonzalez received a red card in the 89th minute, reducing the hosts to 10 men. Despite this advantage, Brazil couldn't capitalize in the dying minutes.
The draw sees Brazil move up to third in the South American qualification table, while Venezuela climbs to seventh, a spot that secures a place in the intercontinental playoffs.
