Leandro Paredes has been handed a 10-match suspension for his involvement in the confrontation that erupted after Argentina's defeat by Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. The midfielder was at the centre of the incident, which saw players from both sides become involved in a heated on-field clash.
Argentina have also seen Nahuel Molina suspended for seven matches, while Thiago Almada has received a one-match ban and assistant coach Roberto Ayala has been suspended for three games. For Spain, Gavi has been given a one-match suspension.
The disciplinary punishment does not end there for Argentina. The Argentine Football Association has also been ordered to stage its next two home internationals behind closed doors, adding another significant penalty following the controversial final.
The federation has additionally been fined around €250,000 over a banner reading "The Falkland Islands are Argentine", which was displayed following Argentina's semi-final victory over England.
