Hakan Çalhanoğlu, the midfield maestro for Inter Milan, was forced off at halftime during Turkey’s clash against Wales on Friday. Wearing the captain’s armband, Çalhanoğlu led his national team onto the pitch but was unable to continue after experiencing discomfort in the first half.

The 29-year-old has recently been battling fitness issues, having missed several matches for Inter earlier this season due to an adductor muscle injury sustained during a Serie A encounter with AS Roma.

"I felt a tingling sensation and didn’t want to take any risks," Çalhanoğlu explained after the match. "Given Inter’s hectic schedule, I’ve had little time to recover fully. It’s only been two weeks since my previous injury, and now I’m feeling pain in the same area. I knew it was best not to push myself as I’m not yet 100% fit."

Medical Assessment Scheduled

The Turkish Football Federation confirmed that Çalhanoğlu will undergo an MRI scan on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury. While his availability for Turkey’s next match against Montenegro on Tuesday remains uncertain, Inter fans will be closely monitoring updates, hoping to avoid a prolonged absence for their influential midfielder.

Key Concerns for Inter

As a pivotal player in Inter’s midfield, Çalhanoğlu’s fitness is crucial to the Nerazzurri's ambitions in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League this season. With a packed fixture schedule ahead, including crucial domestic clashes and European fixtures, the club will be hoping for a swift recovery to maintain their momentum.

The potential recurrence of the injury raises questions about his long-term fitness and the need for Inter’s medical staff to carefully manage his workload in the coming weeks.
