Roberto Mancini

Renowned Italian coach Roberto Mancini has publicly acknowledged that stepping down as head coach of the Italy national team was an error in judgment.

The Euro 2020-winning manager left his position in the summer of 2023, paving the way for Luciano Spalletti to take over. Reflecting on his decision, Mancini shared his regrets in an interview with Giornale:

"Leaving the Italy national team was a mistake, and it’s one I wouldn’t make again," Mancini admitted. "There were challenges at the beginning, but then came a string of victories and records that I am immensely proud of. Guiding Italy back to the top of European football after 50 years was an indescribable feeling. However, our failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar remains a wound that still hurts."

Uncertain Future

Mancini, who most recently managed the Saudi Arabia national team, is currently without a job. His tenure in the Middle East was brief, adding to speculation about where his career may take him next.
