The Portuguese champions parted with Joao Pereira

Sporting officially announced the change of head coach in the first team. The Portuguese champions parted with Joao Pereira and invited 43-year-old Rui Borges to take his place.

Pereira took charge of Sporting on November 11 after the departure of the previous coach Ruben Amorim to Manchester United. Under Joao's leadership the team played 8 matches, in which they got only three victories.

Rui Borges had previously successfully coached Vitoria Guimarães. Under his leadership, the team finished second in the standings of the Conference League 2024/25 and reached the 1/8 finals. For the sake of signing a contract with the coach Sporting had to pay 4 million euros to his former club.

We would like to add that after 15 rounds Sporting is second in the standings of the Portuguese championship, and in the Champions League 2024/25 it is currently 17th.
