Negotiations between the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and national team coach Luis de la Fuente over a contract extension have reportedly hit a stumbling block, according to Spanish media. Despite mutual respect and good relations, financial disagreements are preventing an agreement from being reached.

De la Fuente’s current deal runs through to the end of the 2026 World Cup. However, the RFEF is eager to extend the contract by another two years to cover the full Euro 2028 cycle. Talks intensified on December 26 when federation president Rafael Lusan met with De la Fuente's legal representatives to iron out the terms.

The sticking point? Salary. De la Fuente currently earns €1 million annually, but his agents are pushing for a raise to over €3 million. The RFEF’s latest offer stands at €2 million per year, but the gap remains unresolved.

As both parties seek a compromise, the future of Spain's head coach hangs in the balance. The outcome of these negotiations will likely shape the next chapter for La Roja.
