Real Madrid

In accordance with the club’s statutes, Real Madrid is set to hold its presidential elections in 2025. The previous election took place in 2021, and the current four-year term of president Florentino Perez will expire in April.

Few doubt that Perez, now 77 years old, will secure another term. Despite his age, he shows no signs of stepping down voluntarily, and it is highly unlikely that any other candidate will run. In fact, Perez ran unopposed in the last four elections (2009, 2013, 2017, and 2021).

2024-25 La Liga Standings

Nevertheless, the process must follow protocol. Perez has called for a meeting of Real Madrid’s Board of Directors on January 7 to officially set the date for the elections. Once the process is launched, potential candidates will have ten days to submit their applications.

While the outcome seems almost certain, the elections symbolize a continuation of the democratic traditions at one of the world’s most storied football clubs.
