Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following their 2-1 defeat to Bologna in the seventh round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

According to German media reports, the club informed Sahin of his dismissal immediately after the team arrived at their hotel. The decision comes after a string of underwhelming performances in both domestic and European competitions.

The 36-year-old Sahin took charge of Dortmund last summer and managed 27 matches across all competitions, securing only 12 victories. Despite flashes of promise, inconsistency and recent disappointing results led to his departure.

Borussia Dortmund now face a crucial fixture in their Champions League campaign, as they prepare to take on Shakhtar Donetsk on January 29 in their final group stage match.

The club is yet to announce a replacement, but speculation is rife about potential candidates to take the helm at Signal Iduna Park.
