Paris Saint-Germain made light work of Brest in the first leg of their Champions League playoff round, securing a commanding 3-0 victory on the road. With this result, the Parisians are all but guaranteed a spot in the Round of 16, turning the return leg into a mere formality.

Brest knew well that their familiarity with PSG’s strengths and weaknesses provided little advantage. After all, the Parisians have equally detailed knowledge of Brest, having faced them twice each season in Ligue 1. Predictably, the match unfolded as expected: the hosts focused on defending deep, while PSG patiently dismantled their defense with sustained pressure.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half. A handball in Brest’s box gave PSG a penalty, which Vitinha coolly converted. Brest, understanding the uphill battle they faced, briefly came to life in attack and nearly equalized in the 35th minute when a corner kick ended with a shot deflecting off the post.

However, before halftime, PSG doubled their lead. Ousmane Dembélé danced into the box from the right side and fired a low shot into the near corner. The goal extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive matches and set a personal best — his fifth goal in this season’s Champions League, the most he has ever scored in a single campaign.

The second half saw Brest gradually lose momentum, and PSG capitalized once again. In the 65th minute, five Brest defenders could only watch as Dembélé collected the ball at the edge of the box and blasted it into the net for his second goal of the night.

With the game effectively over, PSG remained disciplined and ensured a clean sheet. Much of that credit goes to Marquinhos, who reached a significant milestone by playing his 100th Champions League match for the club — firmly cementing his place in PSG history.
