Lewandowski was keen to extend his stay at Barcelona until 2027

Robert Lewandowski and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement to extend the Polish striker's contract for an additional year.

According to insider Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski’s contract included an automatic extension clause that would activate if he played in half of the team's official matches this season. The forward was expected to fulfill this condition in the upcoming match against Rayo Vallecano on February 17. However, the club has decided to fast-track the process, agreeing to an extension ahead of time.

The 36-year-old Lewandowski, who has been a key figure for Barcelona since joining from Bayern Munich, will now remain at the club until the end of next season. Despite receiving tempting offers from Saudi Arabia over the past two years, the Polish striker turned them down, as his family prefers to stay in Barcelona.

It was previously reported that Lewandowski was keen to extend his stay at Barcelona until 2027, though discussions on a longer-term agreement have yet to reach a conclusion. With this latest extension, however, the Polish forward’s future at the club seems secure for at least another season.
