Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s popularity in his homeland is so immense that he could easily win a presidential election—at least, that’s what rising Sporting CP and Portugal star Konrad Harder believes.

“Sporting is incredibly proud that Cristiano represents our club,” Harder said during an appearance on Sport TV2. “But it’s not just about what he does here. He’s having an impact across the entire country—far more than I ever imagined. If he ever ran for president, I believe he would win.”

A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo is hailed as a hero by his fellow Portuguese nationals. Many see him as having done as much as any politician—if not more—to shine a global spotlight on Portugal. Over his illustrious career, he has scored 135 goals in 217 matches for the national team, and a total of 928 goals at both club and international levels.

While there’s no indication that Ronaldo plans to enter the political arena after hanging up his boots, some have speculated that he might take a leadership role in football—possibly as president of a club—given all he could bring to the game once his playing days are over.
