Fluminense to have new coach

The Brazilian Serie A is barely underway, and we already have our first managerial casualty. Less than 24 hours after the season kicked off, Fluminense have parted ways with head coach Mano Menezes following a disappointing 2–0 defeat to Fortaleza.

While the result itself may have sparked the decision, Brazilian media report a broader list of grievances: an overly defensive playing style, lack of progression since Menezes took charge, and alleged conflicts with key players.

The defeat only added fuel to the fire, and the Fluminense board acted swiftly. Menezes and his entire backroom staff have been dismissed.

Marcão, a familiar name for Flu fans, will step in as caretaker manager — for the fifth time in his career — as the club begins the search for a long-term replacement.
