Brazil Launches Investigation into Suspicious Yellow Card Bet in Série A Opener
A betting controversy has erupted in Brazil following an unusual surge of wagers on a yellow card incident during the opening round of the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
According to a report from Globo, a disproportionate number of bets were placed on forward Enio of Juventude receiving a yellow card during the match against Vitória. The 22-year-old striker was indeed booked in the 36th minute, and that specific event has now become the subject of an official investigation.

What raised alarms was that more than 10% of total bets placed on the match focused solely on Enio receiving a caution — an anomaly, considering this type of bet typically accounts for no more than 1% of the market.
Multiple bookmakers flagged the incident and notified authorities, including the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which has since forwarded the case to the appropriate legal institutions, including the public prosecutor's office.
This investigation adds another chapter to the growing global concern surrounding betting integrity in professional football, especially in leagues where player earnings vary widely and external influence can pose a threat to sporting fairness.
