Dortmund's Guirassy Claims Champions League Player of the Week
Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy has been voted the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week following a sensational hat-trick performance against Barcelona in the quarter-final second leg.
The Guinea international delivered a masterclass in front of goal, scoring all three for Dortmund in a 3-1 victory at Signal Iduna Park. Despite the emphatic result on the night, it wasn’t enough for the Bundesliga side to progress, as they were eliminated due to a crushing 0-4 defeat in the first leg at the Camp Nou.
Guirassy’s heroics, however, did not go unnoticed. The forward outshone some of Europe's biggest stars to claim the top individual honour of the round.
Coming in second place in the voting was Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who put in a commanding performance in the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Real Madrid. The Englishman was instrumental in controlling the midfield and driving his team forward.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martínez took third, having found the net in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, while Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé rounded out the top four thanks to his assist in PSG’s narrow 2-3 loss to Aston Villa.
